Star of Wonder

As stars begin to sparkle on homes, shops, and malls, we know the beautiful season of Christmas has arrived! But have you ever wondered about the significance of the star during Christmas?

Over 2,000 years ago, when Jesus Christ was born, a wondrous star appeared in the sky and guided some wise men—believed to be from the East, perhaps India or Arabia—to the humble manger where He lay. These wise men recognized the star as a divine sign of the newborn King. Following its light, they reached the child and offered three extraordinary gifts:  frankincense,  myrrh and gold — each carrying deep meaning.

Frankincense, a fragrant offering traditionally reserved for God, symbolized that this child was not just human but divine—God Himself in human form. In Jesus, God came near to us, taking on human form to dwell among us.

Myrrh was an unusual gift, often used for embalming. It foreshadowed Christ’s ultimate purpose: His death on a cross for the sins of humanity. Why such a sacrifice? Because God is holy and just, and sin separates us from Him. Jesus, who was without sin, bore the punishment of sin which we deserved so that we could have access to God.

Gold, a gift fit for royalty, acknowledged Jesus as King—both on earth and for all eternity. His resurrection on the third day confirmed His kingship forever, proving that death could not hold Him. He reigns as Lord over the living and the dead.

Today, Christ, the eternal King, lives to forgive those who repent, restore, and fill our hearts with hope and peace.

May this Christmas remind us of His love that shines brighter than any star. Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed and joyful Christmas!
